Lake water is transported to evaporation ponds with the help of pumps. As the warm weather sets in, the water in the ponds evaporates, forming a salt layer 8 to 10 cm thick. This salt layer is scraped off with special machinery, transported to stockpile areas, and after washing, shipped to the factory for processing.
The greatest advantage of lake salt is that as minerals accumulate in the crystallizing salt layer of the saturated lake water, an enrichment of the elements within its structure can be observed.
Stages of Salt Production
Salt production at Salt Lake relies on the principle of natural evaporation. Lake water is pumped into evaporation ponds; the summer heat evaporates the water, forming a salt layer 8-10 cm thick at the bottom of the pond. This layer is harvested with special machinery and transported to stockpile areas.
From Harvest to Product
The harvested raw salt goes through a washing process to remove foreign matter and increase its purity. It’s then transformed, as needed, into different salt products through grinding, sieving, iodization, and packaging processes.
